Three tips for choosing a carpet color

Choosing color can be one of the most challenging decisions in any floor covering purchase decision. So here are some tips inspired by questions we often hear in our showroom.

Update your home with bold, bright colors–or neutrals.

This year it's all about expressing your creativity and using the floor to make stunning design statements. All color palettes have been updated to be richer and deeper.

Jewel tones are prominent, and neutrals will always be popular. However, there are two "new neutrals."
Gray adds a sleek, contemporary, and chic vibe. Blue carpeting adds color without overwhelming the space.

Light vs. dark colors

Dark colors hide dirt and stains well. They also make a room feel cozy and warm.

Light colors visually enlarge the space, making it seem bright and airy. Light colors are also easy to coordinate.

Look at samples in your own home

Colors can vary slightly in a different light, even if you use a lightbox. Bring them home where you can examine them in your light and furnishings.

Finally, keep this in mind when visiting the carpet store

1. Contrast is good. Just be sure hues harmonize, not clash.

2. There is an order to select a color based on coordination difficulty. Choose the sofa first; it has fewer styles and colors and is more challenging to coordinate around others.

Carpet colors are chosen next and, lastly, wall colors. Wall colors go last because there are so many choices, and it will be easy to match them with whatever you choose.
